Bollywood actress Urmila Matondkar compared Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) to Rowlatt Act of 1919 during a public meeting. The meeting was organized by the Non Violent People’s Movement against the CAA, National Civil Register (NRC) and National Population Register (NPR) on the occasion of the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
Addressing the people, Matondkar said, Rowlatt Act of 1919 and CAA of 2019 are two such acts which will be known as ‘black laws’ in history. The CAA is against poor people. As it is being said, this law is anti-Muslim. We do not want an act that ascertains my identity and citizenship on the basis of religion. It is in our constitution that you cannot discriminate on the basis of religion, language, gender or region.
