Andhra Pradesh CM Y S Jaganmohan Reddy and Telangana CM KC Rao was not able to attend Narendra Modi’s swearing-in as Prime Minister as permission was not given for landing their special aircraft in Delhi. Reddy and Rao had planned to fly to Delhi by a special aircraft from Vijayawada to attend the swearing-in ceremony, according to official sources. Due to security reasons, aviation authorities had banned charter flights from landing or taking off from Delhi and other airports within 300 km of the national capital between 4pm and 11pm on Thursday. There was no restriction on schedule flights and on aircraft of state governments, defence and security forces.
The two chief ministers were supposed to start for the national capital around 2.30pm. This would have meant reaching Delhi after 4pm, when charters were not allowed. Accordingly, airport authorities informed the chief minister’s office that permission for landing their special aircraft at Delhi airport was denied after 3.30pm due to arrival of foreign heads of state and government, sources said. The two Telugu chief ministers then cancelled their trip to the national capital and Rao flew back to Hyderabad from the Vijayawada airport, they said.
