Tomas Berdych announces retirement from tennis after ATP Finals

Tomáš Berdych of the Czech Republic announced his retirement from his 17-year golden career at the ATP Finals, the last tennis tournament of the year. The 103rd ranked player in the world won 13 career titles and reached the top fourth rank of his career in 2015. The 34-year-old tennis player was ranked among the top 10 ranked players in the world from July 2010 to October 2016 but has suffered from a back injury for the past two seasons.
Berdych never won a Grand Slam in his career. He reached the Wimbledon final in 2010 but lost to Rafael Nadal in the final. In 2012 and 2013, together with Radek Stepanek, he played a key role in winning the Davis Cup title to his national Czech team. Berdych announced his retirement, saying that he had decided to retire only after the US Open this year.
On bidding goodbye to the tennis court, he said, ‘The memorable moment of my career was the Wimbledon final. I had entered the Wimbledon final defeating Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer but could not win over Nadal. I won the Masters in Paris and also won the Davis Cup title twice, which will always be memorable for me. Berdych said, ‘It is surprising but for me Wimbledon will be the most memorable that I will always remember in my career. Even the defeat in the final is in my most special moments.
