INX Media case Congress leader P Chidambaram is not relieved by the High Court. The Delhi High Court has rejected Chidambaram’s bail plea. Justice Suresh Kait has dismissed the bail plea after hearing the arguments of Chidambaram and the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The court reserved its order on 8th November. The 74-year-old Congress leader has requested for bail, stating that the evidence is documentary in nature and is with the investigating agencies. Therefore, he cannot manipulate them. At the same time, the ED strongly opposed Chidambaram’s bail plea on 8th November and argued that he could try to influence and threaten the witnesses.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing ED, had argued in the court that there is separate evidence in the money laundering case and in the CBI case and the PMLA (money laundering law) case is far more serious and more heinous. Mehta said that it is an economic crime, which is different. Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing on behalf of Chidambaram, had said that the investigation agency’s case from the beginning was nowhere that the Congress leader tried to influence the witnesses, but suddenly in October (since Chidambaram was in custody ) It was alleged that he could pressurize important witnesses and influence them.
Chidambaram denied the ED’s claim that he used the post of Finance Minister for his own benefit. He said that nothing so far presented before the court directly or indirectly linked him to the alleged crime. Chidambaram referred to the Supreme Court’s order of 22nd October granting him bail in the CBI case and noted that it was said that he was accused of tampering with evidence, fleeing abroad and influencing witnesses in a corruption case. There is no proof.
