In AMC budget for 2020-21, the AMC proposed 20 flyovers and 15 railways under-bridges and the state and Union governments have approved these projects. AMC begins work on all 35 flyovers and railway under-bridges planned for the coming financial year, prepare to face traffic jams for at least the next couple of years.
The governments have sanctioned Rs 968 crore for these bridges and railway under-bridges. A senior officer said that being an election year, work on all these projects will likely begin simultaneously and will consequently lead to traffic congestion everywhere.
The state government had recently sanctioned seven new flyovers, worth Rs 335 crore. These flyovers are part of the budget and were sanctioned under the Swarnim Jayanti Chief Minister Urban Development Scheme (SJCMUDS).
