AMC health teams checked 747 schools and colleges and issued notices to 81 of them. In total, a fine of Rs 1.57 lakh was levied on establishments that ignored mosquito breeding sites.
Well-known schools and colleges that were sealed included Nirman School, Vastrapur; Euro Kids in Jodhpur, Vejalpur Gujarati English Primary School in Sarkhej, Soham Nursing School, Thakkarnagar; Hindi Pratap School, Ghatlodia; Maharaja Agrasen School in Odhav, Doon School in Vastral, Aman School in Behrampura and LNC Mehta Arts College in Jamalpur.
Bhavin Solanki the medical health officer of AMC said the civic body has imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on NC Bodiwala College (Khadia) and Rs 15,000 on JG College (Thaltej) and Shakti Vihar Hindi School (Isanpur).
Other schools and colleges that were penalized included Vivekanand College in Khadia (Rs10,000), CIPET Engineering college in Ramol (Rs 7,500), and Loyola Research Centre in Navrangpura (Rs 5,000).
AMC officials also detected mosquitoes breeding in the civic body’s own schools. The AMC levied a fine of Rs 5,000 on Municipal School. No. 14 situated in Khadia. A fine of Rs 25,000 was imposed on Manorama Party Plot in Naranpura, and Rs 5,000 fine was imposed on Dinner Post Restaurant in Odhav among others.
