The Ram Janmabhoomi and Babir Masjid disputes are being held regularly in the Supreme Court. A constitutional bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi is hearing it. CJI said, today is the 39th day of hearing. Tomorrow is the 40th and last day of hearing the case. Earlier on 26th September, the CJI had said that by 18th October, the trial would have to be completed in any case. A five-member bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi had made it clear that all parties should complete their arguments within the deadline. The court says that it will take us four weeks to write the verdict, so the deadline cannot be extended. Law experts believe that both parties do not feel that the time for hearing can be extended, so the apex court had to repeat its stand once again. The CJI has made it clear to both the parties that whatever has to be done will have to be done within this time frame.
As soon as the hearing began on 26th September, Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi made his remarks. He had said that the hearing in this case must be completed by 18th October, because we have to give a decision in four weeks after that. If we could do this, it would be nothing short of a miracle. Let us tell you that Chief Justice Gogoi is retiring on 17th November. In such a situation, he wants his decision to come during his tenure. The bench told the Hindu and Muslim parties that no additional day would be given after 18th October. The court said that it is a holiday in October and only one lawyer of the four Hindu parties will be allowed to file retaliatory arguments. Earlier on 18th September, the court had also made it clear that by 31st October, the trial would have to be completed in this case.
