Dutee Chand to participate in World Athletics Championships 2019, AFI accepts IAAF’s invitation

Indian athlete Dutee Chand will represent India in the World Athletics Championships to be held in Doha this month. Duti was invited by International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) to participate in the 100 meters, which has been accepted by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI). On 9th September, AFI had announced a 25-man squad for the World Athletics Championships.
Dutee Chand had failed to achieve the qualifying mark of 11.24 in the 100 meters but the IAAF had sent an invitation stating that Dutee could participate in the World Athletics Championships in the 100 meters and Athletics Federation of India ( AFI) has accepted it. AFI tweeted and wrote, “Dutee’s name has been confirmed for the women’s 100m race for the World Championship only yesterday evening.”
AFI included the names of high jumper Tejaswin Shankar and Archana Suseentran in 200 meters apart from Dutee. Tejaswin Shankar confessed to going to the World Championship by saying that it was his off season, while Archana said that he has not received the invitation of the IAAF. The name of Anjali Devi, who achieved the qualifying mark in the 400 meters in the Inter State Championship, has not been approved yet. The AFI has asked him to take part in the trials to be held on September 21 at NIS Patiala.
World Junior champion Hima Das could not make it to the team for 400 meters. However, she has got a place in the four-times 400m mixed relay for the World Athletics Championships and in India’s 25-member team for the women’s relay event. On the other hand, star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra (Neeraj Chopra) could not make a place in the team.
