The JD(U) organizational elections for 2019-22 period would be over by 13th October when it would have new national president elect. The process would conclude with the national council meeting on 19th October, followed by an open session the next day.
Bihar CM Nitish Kumar is JD(U) national president. He is likely to be re-elected as the JD(U) chief, especially in the backdrop of the party winning 16 of the 17 seats it contested in the recent parliamentary elections. JD(U) also won seven assembly seats in Arunachal Pradesh and got the Election Commission’s recognition as a ‘state party’.
JD(U) secretary general K C Tyagi said the decisions were taken at the party’s national executive committee meeting held here. Tyagi was accompanied by the party’s national general secretaries, Pawan K Varma and Sanjay Kumar Jha.
Tyagi said the national executive appointed Anil Hegde from Karnataka as the party’s returning officer for holding the organizational elections. He also released the calendar for the three-year membership drive of the party and organizational elections in the states where JD(U) has its units.
The organizational elections from panchayat to block, district and state levels would be held after the one-month membership drive till 5th July and the resolution of all disputes regarding membership, if any, by 28th August. Nitish launched the membership drive.
While the last date for the election of state presidents, state executive and members of national council is 20th September, the notification for the election of the party national president would be issued on 27th September.
The polling, if necessary, for the election of the new JD(U) national president would be held on 13th October and the result would also be announced the same day. The national council meeting and the open session would be held on 19th and 20th October, respectively, Tyagi said.
