The India meteorological department (IMD) has predicted isolated heavy rainfall and squally weather in coastal areas of the state and Lakshadweep islands.
Strong winds with speed reaching 40-50 kmph, gusting to 60 kmph, are very likely to prevail over southeast and adjoining Lakshadweep and east central Arabian Sea, Kerala & Karnataka coasts on Monday. This is likely to increase further till Wednesday when the winds could become gales touching about 90-100 kmph along the west coast till Gujarat and Maharashtra.
Though the onset was weak, the monsoon has further advanced in the south Arabian Sea, most parts of Lakshadweep and some parts of Kerala and south Tamil Nadu among other regions.
The weather agency advised fishermen not to venture out into sea till Thursday. It also predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall (115.6-204.4 mm) in isolated places of northern Malappuram and Kozhikode on Wednesday.
Orange alert – which asks the public to be prepared — has been sounded for both the districts, for Wednesday.
Otherwise, the state will receive isolated heavy rainfall in some places.
IMD informed that a low pressure area has been formed over southeast and central Arabian Sea, under the influence of the cyclonic circulation over Lakshadweep area & adjoining southeast Arabian sea. It is very likely to concentrate into a depression during next 48 hours and move north-westwards to intensify further into a cyclonic storm subsequently.
District collectors have been asked to be on alert in areas where landslides had occurred during monsoon last year, sources in the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) said.

This is the first time that such a handbook has been prepared, in which 30 different departments have been addressed specifically, indicating their roles and responsibilities.
