IMD issues Orange alert in parts of Gujarat

Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded an ‘orange alert’ for Thursday, and the hot weather is likely to continue till Friday. According to the IMD’s bulletin, the maximum temperature in the city was 44.3°C on Wednesday, 2.6 degrees above normal.
Jayanta Sarkar, director of IMD Gujarat, said, “For the next two days, maximum temperatures will likely remain between 43°C and 44°C in Ahmedabad. As far as Gujarat is concerned, we have issued a heatwave warning for the Saurashtra and Kutch meteorological subdivisions. Temperatures are likely to stay high in northern and central Gujarat, with maximum temperatures at least two or three degrees above normal. Northwesterly winds are constantly aggravating the summer heat, causing heatwave conditions.”
