The world famous sky resort of Gulmarg in Kashmir, Pahalgam and other parts of the state has been experiencing mild snowfall since Tuesday morning, keeping the temperature here cold. Although the night temperature has improved in the Kashmir Valley, there is a possibility of light to moderate snowfall in the next 24 hours. A Meteorological Department spokesman said that due to being active in the region of Western Disturbance, there is a possibility of light to moderate snowfall in the next 24 hours. He said the weather is likely to remain dry till Thursday, while there is a possibility of snowfall since Friday due to western disturbances. Gulmarg in north Kashmir has received two inches of snowfall, which has resulted in a drop in temperature. Kongdori and Upwat have also received moderate to heavy snowfall. The night temperature in Sky Resort improved by five degrees compared to Monday and minus eight degrees.
A hotel employee told that tourists have been enjoying it due to snow since the morning where the snow has accumulated to several feet. In Srinagar, life was affected due to fresh snowfall since morning where the roof of the houses is covered with trees, electric poles, plains and sheets of road. However, there was a slight drop in the minimum temperature. A spokesman for the Mausam Department said the minimum temperature here was minus 1.2 degrees Celsius, down from minus 2.4 degrees earlier. Pahalgam also experienced a snowfall of up to five inches due to which the temperature was cool but the night temperature was normal. Pahalgam recorded a night temperature of minus 3.9 degrees. The upper areas of Pahalgam, including Chandanwari, received light snowfall while the Baba Amarnath cave and its surrounding areas received moderate snowfall. Other parts of North Kashmir also received fresh snowfall while some places on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway also received snowfall.
