The weather once again affected life. Late night rains in low-lying areas of Jammu, snowfall in high-altitude areas forced people to collapse into homes. The highway has once again been closed for vehicular traffic following the landslides at several places between Ramban to Banihal on the Jammu-Srinagar highway due to rain. Traffic police have stopped vehicles going from other states to Srinagar in Lakhanpur, Nagrota and Jakhaini areas of Udhampur. Due to the closure of the highway amid bad weather, there has been a long traffic jam on the national highway. At the same time, the snowfall continued in the Kashmir Valley on Sunday also. This has increased the outbreak of cold.
Five cm of snow has fallen in the city of Srinagar. This has also affected air traffic. Even on Sunday, there was no flight from Srinagar Airport till noon. Snowfall started in many parts of Kashmir since Sunday morning which continues even today. According to the Meteorological Department, snowfall is decreasing in the plains adjacent to the mountains, but heavy snowfall is occurring in the mountainous regions of Jammu, Ladakh and Kashmir. Srinagar city had received five cm of snow in the morning.
13 cm snow has fallen at Pahalgam tourist spot in South Kashmir. Gulmarg in Baramulla district of North Kashmir received 11 cm of snow. Kupwara has received snowfall of up to 32 cm. It is also snowing in Leh. According to the Meteorological Department, the weather will improve later Tuesday afternoon. At the same time, there was a landslide at night near Mom Pasi, Digdol in Ramban district on Jammu-Srinagar highway. The excreta cannot be removed due to the release of rain. The traffic department has stopped vehicles on the highway. It is also snowing in Jawahar Tunnel. Long queues of vehicles have also started there. The work of removing snow and debris will be started only after the weather improves. Apart from this, the historic Mughal road connecting Poonch to the valley and Zojila road connecting Kashmir to Leh is also closed for almost months.
