UK MPs have elected Labor Party MP Lindsay Hoyle as the new Speaker of Parliament. He will replace John Berkau. Berkau was at the center of Brexit fighting while holding this position. The parliamentary debate, which lasted for more than three years, made him a controversial figure. While his pro-Brexit supporters were cynical, his anti-Brexit admirers were.
Apart from Hoyle, there were six other candidates in the race for this post. Hoyle is a Labor Party MP for 22 years. He worked under Berkau since 2010. The fourth and final phase of voting took place on Monday in the ‘House of Commons’. It was voted by 540 MPs, of whom 325 supported Hoyle.
