Foreign Minister S Jaishankar said that India and China have not had a smooth past but it is very important for both countries to have a good future together. Referring to the recent informal meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Chinfing in Mamallapuram, Jaishankar said that it is important that there is open, frank dialogue between the leaders of the two countries.
In a discussion organized by the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum, the foreign minister said, ‘I think it is important that such open discussion takes place in both countries at the top level. If you can’t talk to each other openly, then you can’t really move in the right direction. This is good for the relationship between the two countries. India and China have not had a smooth past but I think it is important for both countries to have a good future. A good future is not our own, but a good future together.
