Mayor Ada Colau has appealed for peace and dialogue amidst violent protests in Catalonia province in protest against the Supreme Court’s decision in Madrid Capital of Spain. Colau tweeted, “We want peace and dialogue in the city.” We do not want to do injustice by imprisoning or accusing peaceful people. We do not want violence because it endangers people’s safety. We appeal for peace and dialogue. Protests erupted in Catalonia after the Supreme Court sentenced nine Catalonia leaders, according to the media. During this time, the protesters clashed with the police and set fire to several places in which at least 74 people were injured.
Police arrested 25 people in this connection. The protesters clashed with police in Barcelona where around 40,000 people took to the streets to protest. The protesters hurled various objects at police officers, set fire to garbage cans and tried to damage government buildings. The police first lathi-charged the protesters and fired rubber bullets. Apart from this, clashes also took place near the administrative buildings in Lida, Tarragona and Girona. More than 130 protesters and 70 police officers were injured during protests on Monday in Catalonia.
