AIADMK government of Tamilnadu seems to be seriously working for safety of females in the state, Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami launched a batch of 40 patrol vehicles for “providing ready response at crime scene and to prevent any violence against women and girl children”.
At least 40 vehicles will patrol the city. “We have purchased a total of 45 Toyota Innova Crysta 2.4G vehicles at a cost of ₹6.8 crore under Nirbhaya Fund. A total of 35 vehicles have been stationed at police stations to respond to emergency,” said an official. As part of the safe city project, under the Nirbhaya Fund initiative of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, in collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs, the project aims at creating a safe, secure and empowering environment for women. “It is a centrally-sponsored scheme with 60:40 cost sharing between the Centre and the State government. The project will enable women to pursue all opportunities without the threat of gender-based violence and harassment. The patrol will curb all forms of crimes against women and girl children in public places,” the official stated.
