TN CM Palaniswami honoured ISRO chief K Sivan with Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam award

Chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami presented the Tamil Nadu government’s Dr A P J Abdul Kalam award to Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chairman K Sivan.
The CM honoured the space scientist with the award, which carries an eight-gram gold medal, Rs 5 lakh and a citation, at his chamber in the Secretariat. Sivan could not receive the award during Independence Day event in Fort St George.
Kailasavadivoo Sivan, popularly known as the ‘Rocket Man,’ is a first graduate from his family. He got his bachelor’s degree in engineering from Madras Institute of Technology in 1980 and master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering from Indian Institute of Science – Bangalore in 1982.
He is also a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering, the Aeronautical Society of India and the Systems Society of India.
Sivan joined ISRO in PSLV project and contributed immensely towards end-to-end mission planning, design, integration and analysis. Later, he worked on the GSLV project. He was appointed ISRO chief in January 2018. Under his leadership, Chandrayaan 2, the second mission to the moon, was launched on 22nd July.
