Victim challenges Swami Chinmayanand’s bail in SC, Next hearing on Feb 24

A student of law in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh has challenged the bail of Swami Chinmayanand, a former MP of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) accused in the rape case. In relation to hearing the petition of the victim the Supreme Court will consider it next week. At the same time, the Supreme Court will hear on 24th February plea of the law student challenging the order of Allahabad High Court. Former BJP MP Chinmayanand, accused of sexual harassment with a law student was granted bail on 3rd February by the Allahabad High Court. Now the bench of Chief Justice SA Bobde will hear the matter. A bench headed by Chief Justice SA Bobde told senior advocate Colin Gonsalves that the High Court’s order granting bail to Chinmayanand earlier this month has been challenged in this petition. On 24th August, a student studying at Swami Shahjahanpur Law College in Shahjahanpur went viral and accused Swami Chinmayananda of physical abuse and ruining the lives of many girls. The student went missing after the video went viral. Later the police recovered him from Rajasthan. In this case, on 25th August, a case was registered against Swami Chinmayanand in the sections of abduction and death in Kotwali Shahjahanpur on behalf of the victim’s father. At the same time, a case was filed on behalf of Chinmayanand’s lawyer accusing the student and her friends of demanding extortion money of five crore.
