Jonty Rhodes Applied for fielding coach of Team India

Top officials at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have confirmed to Media that the 49-year-old has sent in his application for the position.
“He (Rhodes) has emailed his application. He is one of the greatest fielders of all times. We are expecting some more names to join the fray,” one of the Board officials said. The last date for sending in applications is 30th July.
While R. Sridhar, who served as the fielding coach has an automatic entry into the selection process, Rhodes’ application would certainly spice up the competition.
After quitting international cricket, Rhodes was part of Mumbai Indians’ coaching staff and he played a key role in improving the fielding standards of the IPL franchise. He, however, parted ways with Mumbai Indians in 2017, to start his own business.
Ever since the BCCI invited applications for various coaching roles, there were speculations that Australian Tom Moody and Sri Lanka’s Mahela Jayawardene have applied for the roles of head coach. But the BCCI officials could not confirm such a development.
“There is still some time left and there could be some big names applying for various roles,” an official said, refusing to share any further details.
A three-member committee led by former India captain Kapil Dev is likely to choose the head coach, while the BCCI CEO, Rahul Johri, will be deciding on the other coaching positions.
