Arvind Kumar, a 1984 batch IPS officer, will head the Intelligence Bureau, the main internal intelligence unit of the government. He will replace Rajiv Jain, who completed an extended tenure as the IB chief.
Another IPS officer belonging to the same 1984 batch, Samant Goel, will take charge of the RAW, which looks after the external intelligence of the country. Mr. Goel will succeed Anil Dhasmana.
Their names were cleared by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), headed by Mr. Modi and comprising Home Minister Amit Shah.
A top official of the PMO involved in the appointment process told that the ACC approved the names of Mr. Kumar and Mr. Goel for the IB and the RAW.
