Tiruppur MP and CPI urging Centre to reduce GST on MSMEs

Tiruppur MP and CPI state deputy secretary K Subbarayan said they have drafted a memorandum urging the Centre to reduce the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to 5% and it would be submitted to the central government soon.
Talking to reporters in the city, he said while the CPI has prepared the memorandum, they would submit it to the Centre in the presence of all the MPs from Tamil Nadu. “We will give the memorandum after the budget session. As the MSME sector provides more employment opportunity, it should be given more preference.”
Pointing out that almost six lakh industrial units were closed down across the country, he asked whether the BJP was ready to place a white paper on how many industries have been closed down in the past three years and how many people have lost jobs. He said unemployment in the country was at a 45-year high as several indigenous businesses have been affected. “In the Indian market, desi goods have been replaced by foreign ones.”
Subbarayan said they wanted to topple the AIADMK government as it had failed to protect the political, economic and cultural welfare of Tamil people. “But we lost the chance by a narrow margin. But it will happen soon.”
The MP said the state’s policies were anti-people. “The eight-lane project is pro-corporate and not pro-people. The road is to help a private firm involved in an iron-ore mining project in Tiruvannamalai to ship iron-ore easily,” he said.
He also termed chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami’s statement that he expected the newly-elected MPs from the state to press and bring Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu a ‘mischievous comment’. “The AIADMK is close to the BJP. It should get water for the state.”
