Gujarat govt decided to go ahead with Navratri vacation in schools and colleges this year

Ahmedabad
The state government has decided to go ahead with the Navratri vacation in schools and colleges this year also. It declared on Tuesday that the academic activities will not take place between 30th September and 7th October, during the dance festival.
The government declared that there will not be any change in its academic calendar with regard to the Navratri vacation as a slight voice of protest came from the Gujarat State Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board. Last week, the examination committee of the board unanimously resolved not to grant a vacation during the Navratri festival, and sent its resolution to the state government last week.
Board’s chairman A J Shah met the education minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, who conveyed the government’s decision not to change its policy on holidays.
With there is no change in Navratri vacation schedule, the Diwali vacation will be shortened from three weeks to two weeks – from 25th October to 6th November.
Last year, many school managements had expressed their displeasure at the state government’s decision of granting Navratri vacation. They argued that it had adversely affected the academic calendar. They had conveyed their discontent to the Board as well as the government.
Immediately after coming into power for the first time, the BJP government had declared holidays during the festival of Navratri in 1995. However, it disturbed academic schedule so much that it backtracked on this policy.
