Inauguration of Gujarat Biotechnology Research Center (GBRC)

Secretary of Department of Science & Technology (DST) Mr. Dhananjay Dwivedi (IAS) inaugurated the Gujarat Biotechnology Research Center (GBRC) on 24th August 2017 at Gandhinagar. The GBRC will build research and development ecosystem in the field of Biotechnology which plays an important role to enhance quality of life and economy in the state. Globally, the science of Biotechnology is contributing in the fields of agriculture, healthcare, environment, industry and many other sectors. The face of the technology is changing with development of biochips, 3d printing of organs, stem cell, gene editing (CRISPR-Cas 9) to name a few.

Gujarat is keen to walk with such global developments and willing to increase prosperity of the state. Under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Mr. Vijaybhai Rupani, the state is establishing new marks in the overall development. Chief Minister of the state has given a new direction to the progress of the state by strengthening the four pillars of ideology; transparency, sensitivity, decision making and being progressive. Thus, different sectors have shown remarkable progress.

Gujarat Government has recognized the importance of the science of biotechnology and its potentiality. With the vision to develop biotechnology sector and to provide global level opportunities, research and development in the state, the government in the year 2004, established Gujarat State Biotechnology Mission (GSBTM) as a state nodal agency dedicated to biotechnology.

It has taken another important leap with a vision to build biotechnology based research and related activity by establishing an independent society namely“Gujarat Biotechnology ResearchCenter (GBRC)”. Formal inauguration of GBRC was made by the Secretary of Department of Science & Technology (DST) Mr. Dhananjay Dwivedi (IAS) on August 24, 2017 at 10:00am hrs. in the presence of Joint Secretary, DST and Mission Director, GSBTM, Dr. Subhash Soni; heads of various institutes under DST, Joint Directors, Scientists and team members of GSBTM. GBRC is based at Gandhinagar and functional at M.S. Building, Floor – 6.

Gujarat Biotechnology Research Center will focus upon development of technology through research and development in agriculture, healthcare, environment, bioinformatics and animal rearing like fields.
