Assam government’s big decision, all Madrasas-Sanskrit schools to converted high & higher secondary schools

The Assam government has decided to close all government-run madrasas and Sanskrit tolls (schools) in the state. Religious schools operating in the state will be converted into high schools and higher secondary schools within a few months.
Assam Education Minister Hemant Vishwa Sharma said that we have decided to convert all madrasas and Sanskrit schools into high schools and higher secondary schools, as states cannot fund religious institutions. Madrasas run by NGOs / social organizations will continue, but within a regulatory framework.
Himanta Biswa Sarma said that it is not the government’s job to teach religion, religious scriptures, Arabic and other languages for religious purposes. He said that if any NGO or social organization spends its money to teach religion, then there is no problem, but it also has to work within a regulatory framework. He said that if madrasas used state funds to teach the Quran, then we would also have to teach the Gita, Bible.
