Savings Deposits of Bank rise to Rs 39.72 Lakh Crore in FY 2018-19 : RBI

Indian private and public sector banks had savings deposits of Rs 39.72 lakh crore as on 31st March 2019, while foreign banks had savings deposits of Rs 58,630 crore. This information is given in the RBI data published in the Handbook of Statistics on Indian Economics 2018-19.
The data shows that commercial banks (including foreign banks) had a total of Rs 40.31 lakh crore in FY 2018-19, which is more than Rs 36.55 lakh crore in FY 2017-18. Savings deposits in Indian banks stood at Rs 35.99 lakh crore in 2017-18, while in foreign banks it stood at Rs 55,896 crore in the same period.
Credit growth (credit growth rate) of PSBs stood at 8.7 per cent in the first quarter ending in June of the current financial year, while the growth of gross deposits stood at 6.7 per cent. According to the quarterly data on deposits and credits of commercial banks released earlier this month, credit growth of foreign banks stood at 5.4 per cent and gross deposit growth at 19.3 per cent.
