SC approves hearing on plea to live-stream Ayodhya title dispute hearings

The Supreme Court of India has approved to hear on 16 September a plea by former Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) ideologue K N Govindacharya, which sought directions to allow live streaming and audio video recording of Ram Janambhoombhi-Babri Masjid land dispute case being heard by a five-judge constitution bench.
The matter was heard by an apex court bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and comprising of Justices Ashok Bhushan and SA Nazeer. The plea was mentioned by advocate Vikas Singh, representing Govindacharya.
The bench said that “some orders will be passed” on 16 September.
The Supreme Court in August began day-to-day hearings in the Ayodhya land dispute case, noting that more than four months of efforts to mediate between rival Hindu and Muslim claimants had failed.
The Govindacharya petition has reminded the Supreme Court of its own judgment of September 2018 that ordered live-streaming of hearings in momentous cases of national importance. The judgment is yet to be implemented.
