English Club Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has won the 2019 UEFA Men’s Player of the Year award. He defeated legendary players Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to win the award. The 2019-20 Champions League draws were drawn at the Grimaldi Forum here, after which Virgil van Dijk was honored. He played an important role in the success of Liverpool last season by Virgil van Dijk.
The English club won the Champions League title last season, while the team finished second in the English Premier League (EPL) with 97 points.
Wayne Dyke is the first defender to win this award made in 2011. Messi and Ronaldo have won the award five times out of the last eight. Messi received the award for the most goals in the 2018–19 season, while Liverpool’s goalkeeper Alison Baker was named the goalkeeper of the season. Frenkie de Jong was voted Midfielder of the Year. Lucy Bronze of the Olympic Lyonis was awarded the Women’s Player of the Year.
