Chhattisgarh government has announced the sports awards in the name of leaders died in the Jhiram Valley attack in the state. Senior state officials said that Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel while addressing the State Sports Awards ceremony said that sports awards will also be given in the name of the leaders died in the Jhiram Valley attack. Before the assembly elections on 25th May 2013 in Jhiram Valley of Bastar region of the state, Naxalites attacked the Congress Parivartan Yatra. In this attack, 29 people, including state Congress president Nand Kumar Patel, former leader of opposition Mahendra Karma and senior leader Vidyacharan Shukla were died.
Chief Minister Baghel also announced the appointment of 55 sports coaches in the state soon. Baghel gave a prize money of Rs 1 crore 6 lakhs to the sportspersons, coaches, judges of the state who excelled in the field of sports at the State Sports Awards ceremony organized by the Department of Sports and Youth Welfare at Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Auditorium on the occasion of National Sports Day. Awarded by providing mementoes and certificates.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister said that sports and arts are fields in which one gets fame from the very beginning of life. The country and the state is proud of success at the national and international level. He said that Chhattisgarh Sports Development Authority and Sports Academy will be established to promote sports in the state. Apart from training, training of the players in the academy, their education will also be arranged. The government will leave no stone unturned to promote sports.
