Hiting out at Andhara Pradesh’s previous ruled government by N. Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has said that he would order probe into power purchase and other irregularities committed by the previous government.
He said he would recover excess money paid by the state to private power companies in the last five years. A cabinet sub-committee, state and central government’s investigating agencies would be involved in the investigation into these irregularities, including power purchase agreements, land acquisition, land pooling, sand quarrying and mining in the last five years, the chief minister said.
The chief minister said power purchase agreements signed by the previous government had cost Rs 2,636 crore to the exchequer. He said his government would recover that money. The state government would fix responsibilities on officials and others for these irregularities, the chief minister said.
The CM said private power plants had to pay Rs 18,375 crore to the Discoms by May this year while the state government has to pay another Rs 10,375 crore. This huge amount will land the Discoms under financial trouble, he said.
