UP CM Yogi Adityanath bans mobile phones in cabinet meetings

Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath has asked ministers and officials to refrain from carrying mobiles as, sources said, they are often a mode of distraction. “People often keep looking into their phones or playing on them, even during important meetings. The CM has issued orders, prohibiting the use of mobiles from cabinet meetings henceforth,” said a senior government official.
However, a minister told that it was understood that no phones are carried into important meetings and the CM was only reiterating the rule.
“He has prohibited mobiles in the context of the cabinet but it is understood that we either do not carry mobiles to important meetings or keep them on silent mode. However, even when the phone is on silent or switched off, it can still be very distracting,” he said, adding that often cabinet members or officials would walk into the meeting room while they were on the phone and this had proved to be irritating for the CM.
In BJP, the minister added, this rule has been enforced strictly for the past many years. “We are not permitted to carry our phones to important BJP meetings either and leave them outside. This is an old protocol that we have been following,” he said.
