J&K administration releases 4 detained leaders

Jammu Kashmir administration has released four leaders who have been under house arrest for five months after repealing most of the provisions of Article 370 of the Constitution. Among the leaders who have been released, one leader each of National Conference, PDP, PC and Congress has been released. The four leaders, including a former minister and former Deputy Speaker of the previous assembly, were released late on Thursday. Officials said former PDP minister Abdul Haq Khan, former vice-president Nazir Ahmed Gureji, former Peoples Conference MLA Mohammad Abbas Wani and former Congress MLA Abdul Rashid have been released from house arrest.
Five leaders including three former MLAs were released by the administration on last Thursday. All of them were kept in custody for more than five months as a precautionary measure after most of the provisions of Article 370 of the Constitution were removed. The released leaders include Altaf Kalu (former National Conference MLA), Shaukat Ganai (former National Council MLA) and Nizamuddin Bhat (former PDP MLA). Apart from this, former Mayor of Srinagar Municipal Corporation Salman Sagar (National Conference) and Mukhtar Bandh (PDP) were also released. Significantly, on December 30, five leaders were released earlier. The five leaders who were released included Ishfaq Jabbar and Ghulam Nabi Bhat of NC and Bashir Mir, Zahoor Mir and Yasir Reshi of PDP. The same former Chief Minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti are still under house arrest.
