FATF’s claim : Pakistan didn’t take any action against terrorists

Financial Action Task Force (FATF) unit Asia Pacific Group (APG) has given a major blow to Pakistan. It has concluded in its report that Pakistan has not fully implemented the sanctions imposed by the UN Security Council Sanctions Committee 1267 on 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Saeed and other terrorists related to Jama’at-ud-Da’wah (JuD).
The APG says that the same attitude is with the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists. The report, called the Mutual Evaluation Report of Pakistan, by the APG, states that the country must ‘identify, assess and understand’ the risks of its money laundering or terrorist financing. Including risks associated with terrorist groups operating in Pakistan, such as Daesh, al-Qaeda, Jamaat-ud-Dawa, and Jaish-e-Mohammed.
Pakistan has not taken adequate steps against the individuals and organizations listed by UNSCR’s sanctions committee 1267. Especially other organizations including Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jamaat ud-Dawa and Falah-e-Insaniyat. This report is a setback for Pakistan’s efforts because it recently said that no terrorist organization is active in Pakistan. There is also a danger of black list on Pakistan. In June 2018, the international agency FATF, which monitored the money laundering, put Pakistanista on the gray list and gave it 15 months. Pakistan’s dateline is over in September. The FATF is expected to conduct a final review of the matter at a meeting in Paris between 13th and 18th October. Therefore, the coming of the report at such a time is not the right sign for Pakistan.
