In a special meeting chaired by Telangana Chief Minister, he directs the newly-elected representatives of Panchayat Raj institutions to strive for Grama Swaraj and development of rural areas to revive the spirit of Panchayat Raj movement.
Panchayat Raj and Cooperation movements contributed greatly to rural development at one time and its past glory should be brought back. A reward of ₹10 crore would be sanctioned from the Chief Minister’s Special Development Fund to the best performing Zilla Parishads that achieve the set targets, he said.
Addressing the meeting of the newly-elected Zilla Parishad Chairmen and Vice-Chairmen at Pragathi Bhavan here on Tuesday, he said a training programme would be organised soon in Hyderabad for the ZP representatives. He also explained the measures being taken by the government for strengthening the Panchayat Raj institutions. “The training at Telangana State Rural Development Institute that you will undergo before assuming office in July will be designed by our officials,” he said.
Congratulating the people’s representatives for bagging all the 32 ZP Chairmen and Vice-Chairmen posts, the Chief Minister said everyone should earn a good name in their five-year term. “Such one-sided election results were never witnessed and that makes ZP Chairmen more responsible,” he said.
