Swine flu across 34 people died in Maharashtra between May-June, death toll rises 185

Thirty-four people died of swine flu across Maharashtra between 13th May to 10th June, taking the death toll in the state to 185 so far this year.
Officials said 1,642 people have tested positive for the contagion in Maharashtra since the beginning of 2019, with the Pune municipal limits recording the maximum number of casualties, 43, followed by Nagpur (34), Mumbai (33) and Nashik (31).
“We have recorded 185 swine flu deaths so far. Most deaths because of the H1N1 virus have been recorded in the urban areas of Pune, Mumbai, Nagpur and Nashik,” a state health official said.
The active transmission of the virus is not limited to cities any more. Even the rural parts of the state have started reporting positive cases.
“Satara, Solapur, Dhule, Jalgaon, Latur, Akola and Buldhana had swine flu cases and casualties,” said an official in the health department’s epidemic cell.
In the urban areas, Pune (43), Nagpur (34), Mumbai (33), Nashik (31) and Kolhapur (12) have collectively recorded a total of 153 H1N1 casualties. The municipal corporation of Ahmednagar has recorded seven deaths, followed by the civic bodies of Thane (5), Kalyan (2), Pimpri Chinchwad (2) and Aurangabad (7).
Doctors in the city said they have observed a sudden spurt in cases of viral infections following the rain during the last three days.
Senior family physician Prakash Mahajan said, “There has been a sudden spurt in cases of viral infections, mainly that of the upper respiratory tract. Young adults on the move are the worst affected. The season can spur transmission of viruses including swine flu virus. People should exercise all precautions.”
