Three fraudsters were booked for creating fake unique disability identity (UDI) cards and two of them have been taken into custody.
Existence of the gang came to light after one Ishwar Dayal obtained a UDI for Rs 1,500 from one Balaji Digital Center, located near the government industrial training institute in Pilibhit city under Pilibhit Kotwali police station. When Dayal approached the CMO’s office to get his UDI card verified, it turned out to be fake.
Dayal approached sub divisional magistrate (SDM) Vandana Trivedi for redressal. The SDM suggested that Dayal call the accused to a spot, where police would set a trap. Dayal called the owner of Balaji Digital Center, Sanjeev, to a pre-determined location which led to the latter being nabbed. On interrogation, Sanjeev revealed names of his two associates, Amit and Vishal.
The SDM then asked the CMO, Dr Seema Agarwal, to file a police complaint, so that an FIR could be registered against the trio based on it. However, the complaint had only two names, those of Sanjeev and Dayal himself.
The SDM reported the goof-up to the DM, Vaibhav Shrivastav, who asked the CMO’s office to file a revised complaint. The CMO’s office filed a second complaint, following which the trio was booked. While Sanjeev and Vishal were jailed, Amit is on the run.
When asked about the botched complaint, SHO SK Upadhyay said that Dayal’s name had been mistakenly included and was deleted in the second complaint. When asked why she had omitted the names of two of the accused despite being informed of their involvement in the scam by the SDM, the CMO said she wasn’t aware of their role in the case till Wednesday.
SHO Upadhyay said, “Sanjeev, Vishal and Amit were booked under section 420 (cheating and dishonesty), 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating) and 471 (using as genuine a forged document) of the IPC. Sanjeev and Vishal were sent to jail while Amit is absconding. The name of Ishwar Dayal has been deleted from the FIR.”
