Won’t implement NRC in Maharashtra : CM Thackeray

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray says that he will not implement the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Maharashtra. In his interview in Shiv Sena mouthpiece Saamna, Uddhav Thackeray said, ‘The Citizenship Amendment Act is not about snatching citizenship, it is about giving. If NRC were implemented, it would be difficult to prove citizenship for both Hindus and Muslims.
I will not let this happen. Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s statement comes at a time when there are protests in many parts of the country, including Shaheen Bagh in Delhi, against the Citizenship Amendment Act and the National Civil Register. The protesters say that the Citizenship Amendment Act is against Muslims and discriminates on the basis of religion.
