Two BJP candidates files their nomination papers for Rajya Sabha polls in Gujarat. Youth OBC leader Jugalji Thakor also filed his nomination for the second Rajya Sabha seat from Gujarat for which elections will be held. The two seats feel vacant after Amit Shah and Smriti Irani won from the Gandhingar and Amethi Lok Sabha seats in the recently concluded general election.
Union external affairs minister S Jaishankar filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha election from Gujarat on Tuesday. Jaishankar, who took oath as external affairs minister last month, has to get elected to Parliament within six months of his swearing in. By-polls of the Rajya Sabha will be held on July 5. “It is a matter of pride for me to be nominated from Gujarat in Parliament. I consider it my privilege to represent a state known for Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel. Prime Minister Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah are also from this state. I assure you that I will come to Gujarat often,” Jaishankar said after filing his nomination.
