The BSE Sensex rose 505.72 points or 1.15% higher at 44,655.44 while the NSE Nifty50 index settled 140.10 points or 1.08% higher at 13,109.05.
Gains in the market were led by IT, metal, pharma and auto stocks. Except FMCG, most other sectors ended in the green today. Among Nifty stocks, Gail was the top gainer, up 7.84%.
Sun Pharma, IndusInd Bank, ONGC, UPL, Grasim, Bharti Airtel, Tech Mahindra, Infosys, Adani Ports, ICICI Bank, Shree Cements, JSW Steel, Ultratech Cement, HDFC, Bajaj Auto, TCS, M&M, BPCL and SBI were the other prominent gainers in the Nifty, rising between 1.56% and 5.51%.
Nestle was the top loser in the Nifty, down 1.32% followed by Kotak Mahindra Bank and Titan Company, which fell 1.31% and 1.20% respectively. NTPC, Bajaj Finance, HDFC Life, L&T, HDFC Bank, Tata Motors, HUL, Britannia, Bajaj Finserv, Eicher Motors were the oter losers in the Nifty.
