The Bank nifty touched 40,000 but closed lower at 39,540. Broader markets were deep in red as Nifty Midcap 50 closed 2.22% lower while the Smallcap 50 was down 1.47%. India VIX gained 1.11%. Tech Mahindra was the top index gainer, up 4.12%, followed by Larsen & Toubro, Infosys, and Bajaj Finserv. ITC tanked 6.23% to close as the top loser on Sensex, followed by HUL, Titan, and Tata Steel. IRCTC share price nose-dived 15%.
