Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra addressed a press conference and made the announcement that Congress party will be giving 40% of the total election tickets to women in Uttar Pradesh for the upcoming assembly polls.
Priyanka Gandhi also urged the women to come forward and take charge of the development in the state to improve their and their family’s lives. Priyanka Gandhi said that it is the Congress party’s goal that women should be active participants in the politics of Uttar Pradesh. Raising the slogan, “I am a girl, I can fight”, Gandhi said that if women want a change they shouldn’t sit back but take initiative and it is their chance to take the plunge and promote gender equality.
Slamming BJP’s Ujjwala Yojana Priyanka said, “Women will fully participate in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections. Parties think they can empower women by giving an LPG cylinder, Rs 2000.”
She also said that a woman’s struggle is much difficult and it can’t be solved by getting a cylinder but to stand together and fight as a community irrespective of their caste and religion.
