According to the affidavit filed on August 27, the DMK showed an expenditure of ₹79.26 crore, of which ₹40 crore was given to the three parties. Tamilnadu’s opposition party led by MK Stalin has paid to its allies.
This came to light in an election expenditure affidavit filed by the DMK before the Election Commission. DMK had donated ₹15 crore each to its allies, the CPI and Kongunadu Makkal Desiya Katchi, and ₹10 crore to the CPI(M) during the last Parliamentary elections.
DMK spokesperson T.K.S. Elangovan described as “routine and usual” the fund given by his party to its alliance partners.
Asked whether it was a practice to donate money to alliance partners, he said this time the DMK had donated funds for election expenditure.
The DMK had spent ₹58,93,994 for M.K. Stalin, its president and “star campaigner”. The amount was mostly for air travel during campaign.
