Government pledges to make 50 lakh hectare more land cultivable

The government has plans to make 50 lakh hectare more land cultivable. There are many climatic process leading to huge tracts of land non-cultivable. So the government is organising 14th Conference of Parties (COP14) to the UN convention to combat desertification.’

The PM will also address the conference on either September 9 or 10 which will be attended by over 200 countries with India presiding over the conference. It took the this role from China. One head of the state is also expected to arrive in the conference.

Union Minister for Environment, Forests & Climate Change Prakash Javdekar said that this would be attended by policy makers, scientists, researchers, representatives of national and local government, multinational agencies, global business leader, NGOs, gender-based organisations, youth groups, journalists, faith-based organisations and community group will share their expertise at the conference.

The conference will have a special session on Aravali hills and desertification in Rajasthan and Haryana however the minister refused to divulge any further detail.
