Rainfall will continue in Bihar till 12th July : IMD

The India Meteorological Department (IMD), widespread rainfall will continue in the state till 12th July. The IMD also predicted isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall in northern parts of Bihar.
“Places in central Bihar, including Patna, are expected to receive high intensity of showers till 12th July,” a Met official said.
Bihar had 45% rainfall deficiency in June. The recovery of monsoon showers is providing much-needed respite to Bihar as around 32 districts were facing deficient rainfall till last week. The statewide rainfall deficiency has dropped from 45% as on 3rd July to 38% on Monday.
“The seasonal trough across the northern plains is very likely to remain active during the coming three days, with gradual northward shift from Monday evening. As a result, widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls are also likely over Bihar, especially in northern districts, sub-Himalayan regions of West Bengal and Sikkim, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh during the same period,” the IMD bulletin stated.
Private weather agency Skymetweather also forecast gradual increase in the intensity of rain. It said Patna, Bhagalpur and Gaya will get moderate to heavy rainfall with one or two very heavy spells over the next one week. It attributed the ongoing rain to trough line extending from Punjab to Assam across Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
Weathermen at Patna meteorological centre also attributed the showers to monsoon trough line as well as a cyclonic circulation over east Uttar Pradesh. “The monsoon trough line is passing through south Punjab to northeast Bay of Bengal via Haryana, east Uttar Pradesh and adjoining Bihar. Bihar gets good rainfall when the trough line passes through its normal position via Sri Ganganagar, Kanpur, Allahabad, Patna and West Bengal. Thus, the trough line is slightly south of its normal position at present, but it is moving northward,” said a Patna meteorological centre official.
Skymetweather also reported that the monsoon trough was expected to shift towards the foothills of the Himalayas, most probably around 13th to 14th July. “As a result, the foothills of Himalayas along the Indo-Nepal border in Bihar will witness heavy to very heavy rain,” Skymet stated.
