Telangana can give pristine Buddhist bone relic to Andhra Pradesh

With KCR and YS Jaganmohan Reddy working out various pending bifurcation issues of the two Telugu states, an important area of discussion was the sharing of antiquities between the states.
The AP archaeology and museums department has already prepared a list of antiquities that would come to them. One of the items is a Buddhist bone relic which is presently at the Nampally state museum in Telangana. The relic was found from Bavikonda Buddhist complex of Visakhapatnam in 1980.
The bones were thought to be of Gautama Buddha were examined and submitted to Hyderabad museum. Later in 2004, the relic was shifted to Nampally state museum and was kept inside a bulletproof glass frame. Experts suggest that even if the bones did not belong to the Buddha, the historical value of the relic stays to be immense.
A committee chaired by historian Dr Raja Reddy is guiding the splitting of antiquities between AP and Telangana. “Once the relic makes its way to AP it would be shifted to Bapu Museum temporarily and once a state museum is constructed in Amaravati, it would be permanently placed there,” an official in the archaeology and museums department told Media.
