Rajiv gandhi assasination case: S. Nalini, life convict gets 30 days parole

A Division Bench of Justices M.M. Sundaresh and M. Nirmal Kumar granted the relief on a condition that S. Nalini, a life convict in the case of the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi should not give interviews to media, not entertain politicians and observe all other regulations listed under the Tamil Nadu Prison Manual.
Life convict S. Nalini in the case of the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, was on Friday granted ordinary leave for a month by the Madras High Court to make arrangements for the marriage of her daughter residing in London. The Bench directed the Tamil Nadu government to bear the expenses for providing escorts to her as she had no means to pay for the facility on account of her incarceration for over 27 years.
The judges directed her to provide details of the sureties within a week and ordered that the sureties’ authenticity should be verified within 10 days thereafter so that the parole period could begin soon after.
The orders were passed after hearing the convict in person, who had actually sought six months of ordinary leave. However, State Public Prosecutor A. Natarajan submitted that rules permitted for grant of leave for a maximum period of 30 days.
