Mafia turned politician Atiq Ahmad was shifted to Ahmedabad jail. He was taken to Varanasi via road from where he would be taken to Ahmedabad by flight. This is being done following the directives of the Supreme Court.
After getting the letter from the Gujarat government, the UP administration had issued instructions to shift former MP from Phulpur, Atiq to a jail in Ahmedabad. It is also learnt that UP jail administration have paid an amount of Rs 3 lakh to their counterpart in Ahmedabad against his expenditure in jail. The draft has been sent along with Atiq and authorities would pay further after three months.
Although the orders of shifting him to Ahmedabad was received by the jail administration three days back but since Atiq had complained about high sugar level and back pain, the shifting was delayed. However, the process for shifting him commenced on Monday wherein he would is bei g taken under heavy security to Varanasi and from there he along with security personnel, would board a flight for Ahmedabad.
Atiq, who was shif ted to Deoria jail from Naini, is accused of abducting a real estate businessman of Lucknow who was taken to Atiq and beaten in Deoria jail. He was made to sign many documents in the jail. After a complaint was lodged in Lucknow, state government had suspended several officials of Deoria jail.
After this incident, Atiq Ahmed was sent from Deoria Jail to Bareli Jail. But on 19th April, Ahmed was shifted back to Naini Central Jail.
However, after the directives of the Supreme Court, which would now monitor the case, Atiq has been transferred to Ahmedabad.
According to DIG Jail, BR Verma, “He is being taken to Ahmedabad by flight along with the escort comprising one CO, one sub inspector and deputy jailor and expenses of all would be borne by the prisoner (Atiq).”
