Ahmedabad, 25th April, 2018: Delhi Public School – Bopal celebrated Commonwealth Day today and felicitated winners of different competitions held under the banner of Commonwealth Organization. The British Deputy High Commissioner, Mr. Geoff Wain graced the occasion and was welcomed by Sr. Vice Principal, Ms. Vandna Joshi. Mr. Wain gave away the prizes to 103 winning participants from DPS East, CPS Ghatlodia and DPS-Bopal, projects of Kalorex. The Commission had organized several events to involve school children and sensitize them towards unity and diversity of modern Commonwealth; India’s role should be in the future, considering the fast changing world environment. Students actively participated in several competitions like essay writing, group song, project and poster making on different aspects of the common wealth including the recently concluded commonwealth games where India has won a host of medals.
Mr. Wain emphasized during his address to the gathering that India remains a part of the Commonwealth which is one of the world’s oldest political associations of countries with a diverse community of 53 nations that work together to promote democracy and peace. The theme was based on how the Commonwealth can address global challenges and work to create a better future for all citizens through sub-themes of sustainability, safety, prosperity and fairness. Furthermore, he stressed on the cardinal role of students towards the values of common wealth organization. This was followed by a question-answer session covering important aspects of British Diplomacy and the importance of international relations with other countries. Students also got an opportunity to interact with Mr. Wain.
